ARTstor has Gone Mobile!

The ARTstor Digital Library is now accessible to registered ARTstor users through the iPad, iPhone, and the iPod Touch, providing read-only features such as searching and browsing, zooming, and viewing saved image groups. We are also introducing the Flashcard View for ARTstor Mobile, which allows users to test their knowledge by viewing the image without textual information, and then flipping the image to reveal the image record. This new view can be found under the “Views” menu as “Flashcard.” ARTstor Mobile is only available through the Safari browser, just go to http://library.artstor.org  from your mobile device.

Films on Demand Subscription

Check out the Library's new Films on Demand video subscription!

Films on Demand is a web-based,digital, streaming video service that can be incorporated into your classes, allowing students to view the films anywhere and at anytime. The videos cover a wide range of topics and can be viewed in their entirety or by segments.

The educational videos are from Films Media Group; the current list of their most frequently viewed films includes:

• 9/11 through Saudi Eyes
• Mass Media in Society
• Growing Up Online
• The End of Print
• The Once Good Earth: Understanding Soil
• An Anorexic's Tale: The Brief Life of Catherine

ABI Inform Complete Added to Library's Business Databases

Two new components have been added to ABI Inform, one of the Library's business databases.

ABI/INFORM DatelineSearch a unique resource focusing on hard-to-find local and regional business news coverage of large corporations, privately held companies, local start-ups, executive profiles, marketing, finance, and industry news. Provides access to business information not typically found in national news sources. Contains news and analysis, information on local markets, and more gathered from major business tabloids, magazines, daily newspapers, wire services, and city, state, and regional business publications.

ABI/INFORM Trade & IndustrySearch more than 1200 business periodicals with a trade or industry focus. Provides users with the latest industry news, product and competitive information, marketing trends, and a wide variety of other topics. Contains publications on every major industry, including finance, insurance, transportation, construction, and many more.

Both are located in the ABI Inform Complete (Proquest) database, and are listed in the Business and Communication categories under “Article Databases by Subject”. The new additions are funded through the UW System/Council of UW Libraries.

Humanities International Complete

Another New Badgerlink Database!

Humanities International Complete
Humanities International Complete provides full text of hundreds of journals, books and other published sources from around the world. The database includes all data from Humanities International Index™ (more than 2,200 journals and 2.71 million records) plus unique full-text content, much of which is not found in other databases. The database includes full text for more than 1030 journals.

Humanities International Complete is an invaluable resource for students, researchers, and educators interested in all aspects of the humanities, with worldwide content pertaining to literary, scholarly and creative thought. Major subject areas include literature, philosophy, the arts, history, culture and multi-disciplinary humanities research areas. The database also includes original creative works including poems, fiction, photographs, paintings and illustrations.

Use the Find Article Database link on the Library's home page or the Databases by Subject listings in the Humanities fields to try out this new tools for finding scholarly information in the Humanities.

Badgerlink Upgrades

Library Expands Database Offerings

Badgerlink is celebrating its 10th Anniversary. It supplies Wisconsin universities, schools, libraries and all residents with access to many article and newspaper databases. Three major resources that are part of our library's holdings from EbscoHost were upgraded over the summer.

Academic Search Premier, an upgrade of Academic Search Elite, covers a broad range of academic disciplines and offers full-text access to an additional 2,500 journal titles. Business Source Premier, an upgrade of Business Source Elite offers full text of over 2,000 business journals, as well as market research reports, industry reports, company profiles and SWOT analyses. Newspaper Source Plus includes full text for over 1,500 papers including the New York Times, Boston Globe, Christian Science Monitor and the Chicago Tribune.

On a not so positive note, the subscription to Proquest National and Wisconsin newspapers was cancelled by Badgerlink. A majority of the newspapers covered are included in the Ebsco upgrades, but an analysis of possible replacement of the lost coverage is underway.
